Bamboo is heavenly soft, super-absorbent, and environmentally friendly. Bamboo fabric is naturally antibacterial, super absorbent, and beautiful. Bamboo diapers can be made with natural fibers inside or with microfiber inserts for easy drying. BumGenius bamboo fitted diapers contain a microfiber soaker to allow for fast drying. Little for Now bamboo diapers are available as fitted sized diapers with a microfiber insert or as a one-size fitted diaper with a natural fiber soaker.
We love bamboo diapers because they work so well and because they are so gentle on baby’s skin. We use bamboo velour cloth wipes at every diaper change and reach for the bamboo fitted diapers first when the diaper wash is done. Little for Now bamboo fitted diapers come in cute prints and lovely hand-dyed colors as well as natural, unbleached bamboo velour color. We always use undyed, natural fabric on the inside so the only thing touching baby’s skin is natural fabric.
In addition to our Little for Now bamboo diapers, we carry BumGenius bamboo fitted diapers. In January we are expecting the brand-new Drybees bamboo diapers as well as Bummis fitted bamboo diapers. You can see our available selection of bamboo diapers here.

FuzziBunz just introduced a cloth diaper detergent that is completely biodegradable and made with plant-based ingredients. FuzziBunz Pocket Diaper Detergent by VASKA is another step forward in ecologically friendly diapering. Fragrance-free and with no phosphates or other chemicals that are damaging to the environment, FuzziBunz new cloth diaper detergent is also economical at just 16 cents per diaper wash load. Sold in 48 ounce bottles, each bottle is good for 96 washes.
Cloth diapers are already the better choice when you look at carbon footprints and disposal issues. Here in the desert we need to be even more concerned about waste management and water quality than those in more humid climates can afford to be. Everything takes longer to decompose in an arid environment and we certainly need to continually look for ways to protect our water resources.
The big news here is that FuzziBunz detergent is residue free. Most natural detergents are not suitable for cloth diapers because they leave behind an oily residue. Other detergents usually contain optical brighteners, enzymes, softeners and other chemicals intended to stick to clothing fibers. In addition, most detergents do not rinse cleanly, leaving behind detergent buildup. While these residues cause relatively few problems with clothing, it can wreak havoc with cloth diapers. Residue on cloth diapers can cause leaking and odor problems. FuzziBunz detergent eliminates these problems and is environmentally friendly. Can’t beat that!
This ad has been making the round with attachment parenting lists. It has a lot of babywearing moms and dads upset about the way it marginalizes babywearing – yet as they say in public relations, nothing builds traffic like controversy. I am sure the Motrin people thought it was cute – but in any case it is getting talked about and that builds brand awareness. What do you think?
Hemp cloth diapers are a popular choice with moms and dads who want an eco-friendly alternative to disposable diapers. Hemp is an amazing plant that grows quickly, does not need chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and actually enriches the soil in which it grows. Even better, hemp is perfect for cloth diapers. Hemp is naturally antibacterial, resists molds and other fungi, asborbs more and lasts longer than cotton alone.
Most hemp fabrics are blended with cotton for a softer feel. For instance, Little for Now hemp diapers are made with 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton. Hemp cloth diapers come in a lot of varieties from fitted pockets to fitteds, hemp prefolds to hemp contours. Check out the hemp diapering options and learn more about hemp at Hemp Cloth Diaper.com
Pocket diapers are a very popular cloth diapering option. Pocket diapers are convenient whether you choose a one size pocket diaper or a sized pocket diaper (those that come in small, medium and large, for example).
I get a lot of questions about different types of diapers. I just published a small pocket diaper review and information sites to help show how different types of pocket diapers work. Pocket diapers come in a lot of varieties. Check out Pocket Diaper Info for reviews and information on the basics of pocket diapers as well as the different features of each major brand.
One size diapers are an economical way to cloth diaper since they will fit most babies from about 8 pounds to 35 pounds or potty training. Each one size diaper has a slightly different fit, so I recommend trying a One Size Cloth Diaper package to see which one will work best for your family before you invest in a whole stash.
You’ll save even more money with one size cloth diapers if you have two or more babies in cloth diapers. While there are pros and cons to one size cloth diapers, they are the most popular option in cloth diapering today.
How well do one size pocket diapers work? I recently tested a Wahmies One Size diaper for overnight on a heavy-wetting two year old. I stuffed the diaper with one microfiber insert and one medium size Little for Now hemp prefold. She wore the diaper for 12 hours and woke up with dry sheets, although the inserts were saturated.
Some of the most popular one size cloth diapers are BumGenius, Wahmies One Size, and Happy Heiny’s One Size. Wahmies One Size diapers come in both a unique hook fastening diaper and an all snap version. Happy Heiny’s One Size diapers come in a hook and loop (like Velcro) style and a new all snap version.
Cloth diapers in Utah have a long way to go to become mainstream. I have been selling and making cloth diapers for 2 1/2 years, here in good old Riverton, Utah, just a few miles from Salt Lake City. A lot of people ask what I do for a living. My standard response, “I sell cloth diapers and other natural baby things online.” You should see the looks I get. Most people think cloth diapers are too hard or too messy. I get asked the same question almost every time, “Do people even still use cloth diapers?” They sure do!
Most estimates are that from 3-5% of US babies are in cloth diapers. That may not sound like a lot, but it is significant when you consider that every baby in cloth keeps 8,000 or more disposable diapers out of the landfill. We throw away over 18 Billion disposable diapers annually! It takes 300 pounds of wood, 50 pounds of petroleum feedstocks and 20 pounds of chlorine to produce disposable diapers for one baby EACH YEAR. In addition, each baby in real diapers saves a real family about $1,500 or more. Each baby in cloth – counts!
